Stitching Day Newsletter

29/3/2022

Welcome to SPRING! The weather is getting nicer and, after many months of staying home, we can finally start to venture out again. To celebrate, we have decided to hold our first ever Kimat Stitching Day! A friend that lives just north of Stouffville, Ontario has lent us her home for the day to host 20 people for a day of stitching and camaraderie. We will provide snacks, a nice lunch, and beverages throughout the day while you work on your own projects. It is just outside of town so there is a large backyard to wander in and, weather permitting, you can take an optional, guided walk in the Vivian Forest (at her back gate!).
What to expect
10am – 5pm, work on your stitching projects. There are lots of tables so you can spread out
  • Raffle basket, games, and prizes
  • Exclusive boutique for a portion of the day
  • Swag bag to take home
  • Show and share room to appreciate everyone’s hard work
  • Guest speaker, Master Woodworker Gene van den Elzen. He will show some of the stitching tools and pieces he has been making and talk about the process.
To keep everyone safe, attendees must be vaccinated and if you are not feeling well on the day, please let us know. We are limiting the event to 20 people to maintain distance. There is limited parking, so carpooling is appreciated (there is also street parking if needed).
What to bring?
  • A current project (or two) and your stitching box/basket
  • Extra lighting if you need it
  • A water bottle (optional). We will supply the water
  • Hiking boots or supportive footwear and suntan lotion (optional for walking in the forest)
If you are interested in attending, please register and pay online at KimatDesigns.com. The cost is $55 plus tax for the day and there is a link on our Home Page. Remember, it is limited to the first 20 people that register. There is nothing to pick up, we will contact you with details on the exact location.
Hope to see you there!

Goodbye June Hello July

It looks like I am late posting again for the sale of the month. It has been pretty busy in the store recently with the last minute proportions for the EAC Seminar in July.  We are so excited to travel out to PEI this summer, however we will be CLOSED Friday, July 20th as both Kim and I will be manning the booth.  Now is the time to let us know if you would like to place a special order and to pick it up in PEI, as we will be placing the last of our orders in the coming week.

In Honour of Canada Day we will have a special running from June 22 till July 13th.

Stitching -  30% off everything Red and White

Framing - 30% off Red and White Mats

Mystery Stitch

Basics and Beyond Mystery Sampler

Follow along for a true mystery stitch, while we explore different stitches and patterns to create a  counted embroidery row sampler.

Over the years we had many request for information on how to do new stitches, or even how to begin stitching. With the Basic and Beyond Mystery Sampler we will explore simple to advance techniques, and our hope is by the end to sampler you will feel more confident in adding new stitches to your embroidery works.

If you are struggling or would like to learn a new stitch, let us know and we may just add it to the sampler!

This is a first attempt at a project like this, so we will be working out the kinks together

The Materials
  • 30 linen 10"x roughly 36" {Debutante Pearl} ( I started this knowing I wanted the stitch count to be 60 stitches wide but as of yet have no length mind for ending. Working 2 over 2 threads)
  • I would recommend at least six skeins of DMC Floss {I would suggest using a colour family of six floss then you would only need to purchase 1 skein of each colour, using one variegated floss and a complimentary would works as well, a limited palette of two contrasting colours could be fun as well} ( For my work I am exploring the 35 new colours from DMC)
  • 1 package of Mill Hill Glass Seed Beads to compliment your colour (I choose 02010)
  • Then your choice of needles (I like a size 28, that way I can be as I go), this piece can be worked in hand or using a hope or stand

The First Band

Back Stitching

In the chart you will notice that I have only shown a section of the full 60 stitches wide that the sampler is.

Work the second row of back stitch for the Beaded Herringbone the first and last stitch is worked over two fabric threads, while the remaining stitches are worked over four fabric threads.
