Stitching Roadtrip

22/6/2023

Kim and I had a wonderful trip to the EAC-ACB Seminar this June. We are so in awe of the beauty of our country and very thankful for the time we were able to spend together.
Day 1
Our first day we ended up leaving a little later then planned, however we did make it to Chutes Provincial Park roughly around six in the evening. We decided that our first stop would be to see the breath taking chutes then make camp. Admittedly the first camp of the season is always a little rough, it's been eight months or so since we have unpack and set up a tent. So not a big deal when we discovered the only thing we forgot to pack was the pump for the air mattress, off we went to the first trip to Canadian Tire. Oh No! We blew a fuse in the van blowing up the mattress.
Day Two
Okay so we had just blown a  fuse for the cigarette lighter which powers the GPS. We can make it into Sault Ste. Marie for our second trip to Canadian Tire just fine. Three hours later we are back on the road and arrive at our destination for the night Neys Provincial Park. After taking our time to stroll the shores of Lake Superior we return to camp for the night and can you guess what happens next? If you guessed blow a fuse, you score a point. We can't thank our neighbours coming to the recuse and blowing up our air mattress for the night!
Day Three
Off to Thunder Bay for our third and final stop at a Canadian Tire! While we changed the fuses we were able to catch a glimpse of an airshow with the Snowbirds. That night we make it to Rushing River Provincial Park, where we are able to set up the tent just before the rain started.  The wildflowers were in peak bloom, and we were able to enjoy the view over looking the water in the morning while we ate breakfast.
Day Four,
After an adventurous morning of having to call CAA to tow us out of our campsite. With the rain we had overnight the front wheels of van had sunken into the sand of the our site. We arrived in Winnipeg for the 2023 EAC/ACB Seminar.  It's hard to believe how quickly the landscape changes from rolling hills to flat open area. Our luck follows us for one more bump in the road. No sooner then we finish checking in and unpacking the van does the fire alarm go off and we must evacuate the hotel for twenty minutes.

Day Five/Opening Reception
After three days on the road driving and camping Kim and I were very excited to take a day to rest, tidy the camping gear and air out/dry the tent in the parking lot.  While we did not get much time to see and explore the city as we would have liked, we did get to spend a few hours exploring the Forks and grabbing lunch.

Day Six & Seven - First Two Day Classes
You are certainly immersed into classes right away and hit the ground running. I had great time in Mike Parr's class expanding my knowledge and learning new stumpwork, surface embroidery and needle lace techniques. Kim was thrilled with her class on the Borro Bag and having a chance to explore a new technique that she has been very interested in for awhile.
Day Eight - One Day Class
Mom and I were thrilled to learn that we would both be in Naomi Smith's one day Bead Embroidery class. The class was outstanding and we are looking forward to spending a day or two finishing it this July.
Day Nine & Ten - Second Two Day Classes & Closing Banquet
We were thrilled to learn that we would both have the opportunity to learn about goldwork embroidery. Kim was in Alison Coles' Bordering on French taught by Beryl, while I was in Natalie Dupuis' Strawberry Delight. Can you believe the beautiful embroidered polar bears everyone received as a table favours?
Day Eleven
After classes on day ten we headed out on the road again to spend the night at a different campsite in Rushing River Provincial. No troubles this time. It was a long day of driving, however we were able to spend the night at Pukaskwa National Park, and bucket list campground!
Day Twelve & Thirteen
We were on the road early for another long day of driving heading for Killarney Provincial Park. Rob and Luna joined us camping for the last few days before heading back home.

Total Animal Sightings
3 Moose
1 Deer in Winnipeg
7 Bears including 1 mom and 3 cubs

A Few Days Later
We arrived home and one week later we hosted our first Stitch Day of the Summer. We are so thankful to everyone coming and spending their day stitching with us! A Special thank you to Mary of Canadian Stitchery for talking about her designs and stitching journey! Along with a shout out to Toby, Sydney, Sandy and Sara for without whose help, the day would not have been possible.
